INDUSTRY
In 2018, the sector generated 7.8% of company creations and created 8.0% of the territory's wealth. It is important to highlight that New Caledonia is one of the few french overseas territories to have a dynamic industrial sector.
The main industrial activities in New Caledonia are the repair and installation of industrial machines and equipment (29.1% of the industrial business park), the food industry (17.9%), production consumer goods and building products.
To support the development of the industrial sector, which must face high investment and production costs due to the small size of the local market, the Caledonian authorities have implemented a proactive policy combining protection of local production and fiscal incentives.
Professionals aim to build a more innovative, modern and export-oriented industrial sector in the coming future. They are gathered in the FINC, Federation of New Caledonia Industries and the NCT&I cluster, which is in charge of supporting companies in their prospection or promotion in foreign markets. As a developed territory, New Caledonia has a lot of services to offer in neighborhood islands such as Fidji and Vanuatu.
