The now former French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe mentioned New Caledonia with emotion as his left Matignon

Upon the transfer of power between Edouard Philippe and his successor Jean Castex, the now former Prime Minister spoke of the process under way in New Caledonia, with emotion. He sent a very special message to the Caledonians:

“I would particularly like to salute the political forces of New Caledonia. You will see, Mr. Prime Minister, in Matignon there is a lot of talk about New Caledonia. The extraordinary process that was started long before this government and pursued by many Prime Ministers since Michel Rocard is a fascinating, difficult, complex and still uncertain process. We must pay tribute to our fellow Pacific citizens who are working to find the right solutions for this incredibly endearing island.”
